HELLO
FROM LONDON!
|
We
jumped into 2014 by celebrating Dr. B’s birthday with a visit to the
Victoria & Albert Museum to see a couple of great
exhibitions. What’s the saying, “from the sublime to the
ridiculous” well maybe it should be “from the ridiculous to the
sublime”! The first was an exhibition of 80s Fashion in all it’s
flash, shoulder pads, and sequins and the second was on pearls, from
the oyster to the tiara! They were both fabulous. It still
takes our collective breath away each time we walk into one of London’s
architecturally beautiful museums.
You know, every corner you turn in London offers an unexpected
surprise, but we sure didn’t expect this! Sights like this make a
shopping day in Marylebone so much fun!
There have been many, many soggy days lately (not complaining since half the UK is flooding)
but it has been great “curl up and read and dream” weather. So we
have been imagining the year, planning great things, and dreaming
future dreams. Amidst gallons of tea and lots and lots of scones
and jam!

THIS
MONTH'S ARTICLE: Always leave room for the unexpected!
|
Welcome
to 2014, it’s a whole new year. I was thinking about the
excitement I always experience when opening a new book...the thrill of
not knowing what I am going to find...the promise of being captured by
new words leading me into new adventures, new ways of thinking, and new
ways of seeing the world around me. I love the feeling of
throwing myself into crisp new pages and getting lost amongst
them. So why not approach the new year with this same degree of
delight, curiosity, and expectation! In truth, the year is just a
new page waiting to be turned.
I have no idea what this
year holds for me, and I mean that in the most profound sense. Of
course there are appointments, projects, meetings, and events (some
really big life changing ones) already scheduled throughout the year
and I will show up and do my part. I will make choices, wise
choices (and probably some not so wise ones), and I will take risks (and sometimes I will amaze myself!).
I will in short, hold up my end of the contract. But beyond this,
beyond all my planning and reasoning, the year will unfold as it is
meant to.
When I was younger (I sheepishly share)
I used to breathe a sigh of relief come January 1st. With my
youthful cynicism I would declare, “Thank goodness that year is
over!”. Now I realise, “That year will never come again, I will
never be the same again”. We are not the same as we were last
year. We have been changed simply by the living of it.
Each and every year (hey, each and every day)
we have the opportunity to approach life, to experience life, ‘as if’
we were turning a new page in a book of yet undiscovered
experiences and emotions. Even all the same old, same old,
ordinary events are never really the same at all. Accept this
year as a journey of discovery. Be open. Be flexible.
Be truthful. Be willing to learn. Withhold judgement. A
year from now we will be in this same place, looking back and looking
forward, and nothing, absolutely nothing will be the same.

HERE’S
ONE GREAT TIP!
|
Get a brand new notebook for your year (oh anticipation)
plenty of blank pages waiting for your ideas, thoughts, plans,
successes, and challenges. Write down what you are striving for,
look forward to, hoping and wishing for. Then leave a blank page
in between each one of your thoughts for you never know what will
transpire.
Here’s the BIG tip...always, leave room for the unexpected!
